Class!  Please allow me to begin this morning with a brief bit of bragging: This Saturday night, I got to meet W. Kamau Bell before his stand-up show at Fete!  You should be jealous– very jealous!

You can see him being awesome and funny and smart here and here and here, among other places.

But back to business: Today, we begin Kindred, by Octavia Butler!

Using the graphic organizer provided to you, write down your thoughts, questions, and takeaways from the prologue and first chapter, which we will read together as a whole group.  At specific stop points, you can write in each thought bubble in the graphic organizer.

Words we should define together, by page, are:

  • 10- coherently, detained
  • 12- loafing
  • 14- inflict
  • 15- tentatively, mute
  • 17- recede
